11. X-Men: The Last Stand
Release: 2006
X-Men: The Last Stand attempts to conclude the first trilogy with an epic finale featuring the Phoenix saga. It succeeds somewhat in doing so. We know the characters from the old films, hence some emotional scenes work well.
But like Dark Phoenix years later, the third X-Men installment fails to satisfactorily show all the characters. The most important question in the X-Men stories is about acceptance and the right to live. This is pushed to the background through the action here. Unfortunately, Famke Janssen does not convince as Phoenix either.
10. X-Men: Apocalypse
Release: 2016
Apocalypse is one of the biggest foes of the X-Men and is seen here for the first time on screen. The film tries to make his presence threatening and impressive. New mutants are also introduced again, including fan favorites like Psylocke, who get little character development.
With X-Men: Apocalypse, one can have fun if they turn off their brain. Nonetheless, it is one of the most forgettable films that fail to portray a villain like Thanos.
9. Wolverine: The Way of the Warrior
Release: 2013
Wolverine: The Way of the Warrior is better than its predecessor. The setting in Japan is refreshing, and the focus on Wolverine works better here. Unfortunately, his dilemma of eternal life is not really explored here either.
Nevertheless, Wolverine: The Way of the Warrior manages to entertain. Hugh Jackman is simply Wolverine, even if the film does not fully exploit the character. Some of the fight scenes are well done.
8. Deadpool
Release: 2016
The first real appearance of the mercenary. The movie works primarily due to Ryan Reynolds, who obviously loves the character. There is juicy action with decent choreography and ideas. But the humor is particular and does not always work.
Here there are gags galore, and you have to like that. The villains also lack character. Nevertheless, the first Deadpool is an entertaining film that was a breath of fresh air in the genre in 2016.
