4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Release: 2005
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire expands the world of Hogwarts with new schools and the Triwizard Tournament. It is interesting to see what the other schools look like, and the tournament is exciting and establishes new aspects of the world.
If one had to name a flaw, it would be all the romantic nonsense and the behavior of the pubescent students. However, considering that the characters are indeed of such an age, it can be easily forgiven.
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Release: 2002
The Chamber of Secrets is very similar to the first part, but with a looming threat that is felt at all times. You could almost call it light horror. The film establishes more evil in the world and shows how our 3 heroes have to develop.
A lot of Hogwarts is shown, which brings back wonder, and characters like Ron get their spotlights. Overall, it is a great film that is also suitable for fans of horror who might want to watch something with their children. Bonus points for the beautiful set design.
2. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Release: 2001
Entering the world of Harry Potter for the first time is one of the most beautiful moments of the entire series. Not only does Harry experience the processes and new things for the first time, but we as viewers do as well. Together with Harry, we marvel at the world and soon after at the school.
This is really great, especially since the three main actors are immensely sympathetic and one enjoys watching them grow with their tasks. The Sorcerer’s Stone is the film that best shows why so many people love the world: the discovery of magical and incredible things.
1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Release: 2004
The Prisoner of Azkaban combines all the aspects that one loves about Harry Potter in one film. There are new things to discover from the wizarding world. A threat can be felt in the atmosphere, but at the same time, one feels as safe in Hogwarts as never before.
Equally important are Ron, Harry, and Hermione, whom we follow. The dynamics and chemistry of the three are established and work as well as in no other film. They are sympathetic, and one feels for them. On top of that, there are twists and perhaps the most beautiful set design in the series.
You have to give the Harry Potter series credit that it (aside from the last Fantastic Beasts films) is a consistently good series that is enjoyable to watch. No part needs to be skipped.
