Bethesda announced that soon brewing and distilling alcohol will be possible in Fallout 76. And already, the community’s dreams of bootlegging and alcohol trade begin. Does alcohol make the online game a better game?
What’s coming? With the upcoming update, you will have the opportunity to get a brewing station and a fermentation vat for your C.A.M.P. With this, you will be able to brew beer, cocktails, wines, and spirits here.
What do the drinks bring? There are different categories of alcoholic drinks that provide temporary boosts but also drawbacks.
- Wines and spirits must first ferment and, when served fresh, provide a “freshness effect” that causes your melee attacks to ignite you, dealing damage to your attackers. If you allow the drinks to age, then the “vintage effect” causes enemies to catch fire from your ranged and melee attacks.
- Beers also need to ferment but should be served fresh. Then, stability when using scopes is improved, and you deal more damage to animals. However, precision in V.A.T.S. decreases.
- Mixed drinks do not need to ferment and quench your thirst but add the chance of infecting you with a disease with your melee attacks, and they also fill your hunger bar.
To obtain recipes for drinks, you must complete one of two repeatable daily quests for the robot bartender Al in the Whispering Tavern every day.

How is this announcement received in the community? Perhaps with all the criticism of Fallout 76, fans might have expected cynical comments like “Now you can finally get drunk in Fallout 76” or something like that, but this is not the case.
Instead, players are excited and already planning to supply Appalachia with “bootlegged” alcohol. The brewing system is evidently something that many enjoy. Alcohol is making Fallout 76 a more interesting game for some.
DingBingus says on Reddit: “Finally, I can brew. This fulfills my dreams as a bootlegger!”
However, it cannot go without criticism. Some fear that new bugs will come with the brewing system, and others cynically think that the daily quests are meant to ensure that players log into the game regularly.
Zombie__Proof comments: “I can’t wait to see the new bugs that come with the new status effects, as they do not work well with mutations and chems…”
When will the system be introduced? Bethesda will reveal more soon. No date has been announced yet.
