Sandbox Interactive, the German development studio behind the MMORPG Albion Online, has announced some layoffs. They want to return to the team size they had before the beta, which means almost halving the studio.
The team at Albion Online wants to return to the number of employees they had before the beta. During the testing phase and especially at launch, new employees were hired to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible. Now, these employees are no longer needed.
Fewer employees needed
The developers explain: “Albion Online was successfully launched in 2017. To be ready for the release and during the beta tests, we almost doubled the team to more than 50 people. Now that we have completed the release, we are reducing the team size again to reach about the level we had before the beta. 31 employees are now supported by talented freelancers and are working to regularly improve and expand the game.”

Furthermore, it says: “This goes hand in hand with our vision to focus on the core vision of the game: With the release of the Kay update last December, we were able to stabilize our player base at a high level, and it is steadily growing. The next update, Lancelot, will continue this path and is expected to be released in March. Further updates are already in planning.”
Apparently, the developers of Albion Online are satisfied with the current state of the game.
The December update of Albion Online focused primarily on the MMORPG’s PvP.
