The MMORPG Aion was originally released in 2009 and has changed significantly since then. The new servers aim to bring the game back to its roots and are so exciting at launch that huge queues are forming.
What’s going on? Today, on June 23, the Classic servers of Aion launched in America. However, anyone wanting to play on release day should be prepared for long queues.
The reddit user Hathaway_Noa shared a screenshot showing he is in position 12,456 in the login queue.
According to some users in the comments, the queue from the Siel server has already increased to over 30,000 players. The second server, Israphel, is completely full and the queue is considered “full”. Currently, it is not known how many players are queuing there.
No Pay-to-Progress Items and old memories attract players
What kind of servers are these? The Classic servers of Aion are supposed to be based on the gameplay content from the patch at launch. So you can look forward to the following content:
- PvE content up to level 50
- Rift and Fortress battles in PvP
- 4 base classes, which will evolve into further specializations as you level up
Compared to 2009, there is, however, an adjusted client and some balance adjustments, including fewer experience points required to reach the max level.
While Aion Classic can be played for free without a subscription, there are significant restrictions that can only be lifted by a subscription.
What about European servers? Aion Classic is currently only available in America, but there is no region lock, so you can play there too. The current version of Aion in Europe is operated by Gameforge. We have not yet received a response from the publisher regarding whether Classic servers will come to us.
Why is Aion Classic attracting so many people? One aspect often mentioned in connection with the Classic servers is the memories of the old times and the original feeling of the game. Some view the current version of Aion as “patched to death”.
You level up significantly faster than before, everything is somehow easier, and some old content has been removed from the game.
Moreover, many players criticize the current Aion for having strong pay-to-progress items, including:
- XP boosters
- Instance shortcuts
- Boosters for more gold or loot
- Equipment that can be directly sold in the shop
On the other hand, the shop of Aion Classic currently only offers cosmetic content and is also expected to refrain from boosters or pay-to-win in the future.
