The developers of Aion 2 joyfully announced their player numbers, but the community points out that there are already bots among them.
What are the developers sharing? The developers of Aion 2 spoke about the number of daily players during the release week. They explain that during the first week, about 1.5 million players logged into the new MMORPG in Korea and Taiwan every day. As MMORPG.org.pl reports, Aion 2 has already earned approximately 5.9 million euros within the first two days just from mobile sales.
Among the players in Asia are also some players from the West who have bypassed the regional restrictions. However, they now report on bots that have been haunting the new MMORPG almost since the release day and are appearing in significant numbers.
Here you can watch a trailer for the MMORPG:
Many players and many bots
How bad is the bot situation? Although the new MMORPG has only been available for a week, players of Aion 2 have already discovered the first bots. They operate, as seen in other MMORPGs, with randomly generated names and always in clusters from point A to point B, thus earning valuable items.
Although one cannot trade in Aion 2 without a paid membership, it is said to be possible for free players to purchase items as well. Bots could be used for this purpose to buy items at inflated prices from regular players, thereby affecting the economy of the MMORPG.
On Reddit, players are showing evidence that bots are already present. There are already providers for the programs on the internet, along with screenshots of the providers claiming that their tools actually work.
How does the scheme work? According to a detailed post on Reddit by a player, the botters create an account and quickly set to work after the account is created to complete a specific quest. This quest would reward a skill reset book, which can be sold to a NPC for a significant amount of gold.
Botters would need about 8 minutes for the quest. Thus, they could farm millions of gold in one hour. This would then end up being passed on through item purchases in the auction house either to other accounts or even directly to gold buyers.
What are the developers doing about it? As the user writes, the developers of NCSoft have made the mentioned item and other similar items unsellable to limit the bots’ earnings. However, according to the player’s statements, many millions of gold that have been illegitimately acquired are already in circulation.
In a notice on the official website of Aion 2 Taiwan tw.ncsoft.com, the developers warn against the use of programs like bots. Those involved in such “abnormal and malicious” methods risk their account, the developers state there. The developers further write:
[…] To prevent such incidents, AION 2 will continue to combat illegal programs. Please be aware that the use, advertising, or distribution of unauthorized programs is expressly prohibited by our operating policies. Once such actions are detected, game access will be restricted according to our policy standards. […]
That Aion 2 is struggling with bots so early surprises many players. The MMORPG was seen by many as a beacon of hope for the genre and is already entering its second crisis after the debate about excessive monetization.
