With the AI Midjourney, you can create your own artworks without having to pick up a pencil. Now a user even won an art competition with it, but this is not going down well on social media.
Which competition is it about? The Discord user Sincarnate, whose real name is Jason Allen, created images with the artificial intelligence Midjourney and participated in an art competition in the category “digital arts”.
In the competition named “Colorado State Fair Fine Arts 2022”, Jason Allen took first place with the work “Theatre d’Opera Spartial”.

Users see danger for creative professions and highly skilled jobs
What reactions were there? The user @GenelJumalon shared a screenshot on Twitter, where the happy winner reports about his triumph on Discord. To the screenshot, @GenelJumalon also wrote “Yes, this is quite shitty.” and made his lack of enthusiasm clear:
There was also a lot of criticism from other users under the post, and the fact that an AI won an art competition was not well received.
A Twitter user even saw the success of the AI as a threat to “highly skilled jobs” and “the death of art”. Over 4,800 people seemed to agree with this thought and pressed the like button.
We see the death of art right before our eyes – if creative professions are not safe from machines, then highly skilled professions are also at risk of becoming obsolete.

Even though the reactions to the successful participation of Midjourney in the competition are rather critical, the general mood towards AI is quite positive and has already captivated the Internet.
