It has finally arrived: A group of fans has launched a classic version of the MMORPG Everquest. Experience the online game as it was in 1999.
What is Everquest Project 1999: Green? It is a fan-operated server that allows you to experience Everquest as it was when it launched in 1999.
However, it is a progressive server. This means that new content is gradually added. These are, of course, the contents that Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) released over time.
So patches, updates, and addons will be added exactly as they were released back then – at the exact intervals that SOE provided them.

What does Daybreak say about it? Daybreak Games, which evolved from SOE, have given the project their blessing. The community is allowed to operate the classic server, so you can join in without worry.
And how do you join? To participate, follow these instructions:
- You need a version of Everquest: Titanium Edition
- Install the game in a new directory. It must not be in a directory where you have already installed another version of Everquest
- You must not patch the game!
- Download the files from Project 1999
- Extract the files into the new Everquest directory. Overwrite the files when prompted
- Register for a forum account
- Once your account is confirmed, create a login server account
- Start Everquest via “Launch Titanium” in the game directory
- Then choose the Project-1999-Green server
Fans are excited
How is the project being received? Already over 13,000 accounts have been created and in the newbie zone, you can currently find about 100 players online simultaneously. Just like WoW Classic, this classic version of Everquest is also quite popular. There are still a few technical issues, like crashes and lags due to the influx of players, but fans are having a lot of fun in the MMORPG.
throwthisawaynow617 mentions on Reddit: “I logged in right at the minute the server started. Oh my God. The number of players in Neriak was amusing already.”
Players are celebrating this classic server, which launched to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the MMORPG.
