The last tournament of the “Call of Duty: League” season for CoD: Vanguard is over. This allows eSports players to freely express their opinions about the game and they take the opportunity to criticize Vanguard.
Call of Duty: Vanguard did not meet the expectations of fans after its release. Among other things, two reasons were cited by the developers for the game’s poor performance:
- The community did not like the World War II setting
- Players expected more innovations in the game than were actually present
Here you can find an article why CoD: Vanguard sold so poorly.
Even eSports players seem to be dissatisfied with the latest installment of the series. After the eSports season in CoD concluded with a tournament in Los Angeles, some professionals expressed their negativity about CoD: Vanguard on Twitter.
Here you can see a trailer for the upcoming installment of the CoD series:
What was the event like? From August 4 to 7, 2022, the Call of Duty Championship Weekend took place. An eSports event held at the Galen Center in Los Angeles that concluded the eSports season.
In the tournament, eight teams competed against each other in CoD: Vanguard. The final on Sunday was for first place and $1.2 million US (approximately 1.17 million Euros). In the end, the team “Los Angeles Thieves” won. “Atlanta FaZe” came in second.
What did the eSports players say? Now that the last game is over, players can speak about CoD without fearing consequences. They took advantage of this and posted their criticisms of CoD: Vanguard on Twitter after the tournament:
- @aBeZy (Team Atlanta FaZe): “Thank god I never have to play this shitty CoD again. Literally the worst game I’ve ever played.” (via Twitter)
- @Standy (Minnesota RØKKR) confirms @aBeZy’s criticism: “can agree”

- @11Kyrie_G: “Lmaoo damn”

The game currently seems to be well received neither by professionals nor by the community. However, the new installment of the series is set to be released in the fall: CoD: Modern Warfare 2.
It remains to be seen whether the successor will perform better with players than CoD: Vanguard and meet the expectations of the community.
