In GTA 5, players love to race down the highway. But it is precisely there that Rockstar Games removed a feature more than 10 years after the release of their game that made the highways really good.
What feature are we talking about? In GTA 5 and GTA Online, players spend a lot of time on the highways in the game. Whether in missions, races, on RP servers, or just for fun. Anyone who knows the highways like the back of their hand also knows the yellow bollards.
These bollards, which can also be described as yellow highway paddles, are located in the middle of the road and separate the two lanes. Those who drive fast have surely knocked them down more than once.
It is precisely these bollards that have now been changed and exchanged for a worse version.
With this update, the highway bollards were replaced:
From Wobble-Bollard to Concrete Blocker
What has changed? In the latest major update “Bottom Dollar Bounties” from June 2024, these bollards have likely been replaced. Previously, you could slowly drive over them to bend them. You could also make them wobble by walking.
However, with the update, the bollards have been changed so that they can no longer be easily bent. Now the bollards simply break when you drive over them. It doesn’t matter how slow you are; either you get stopped, or the bollards break. If you try to bend the bollards on foot, you will run into a concrete blocker; it is no longer possible to make the bollards wobble.
In a video on X.com, user @Lucas7yoshi_RS has shown the change in detail:
Why was the feature removed after such a long time? Rockstar Games added the “Road Paddle” as a “prop” (component) in the Bottom Dollar Bounties patch, as the patch notes show (via Reddit). However, there is no explanation as to why it has now been changed.
The creator of the video has his own theory about the change. According to him, the change may not have affected just the bollards, but rather all flexible joints in the game. However, he does not provide any evidence for his assumption.
How are players reacting to the change? The change is not well received by the players. User @NeroAUS writes on X.com: “Why do I feel like I was hurt by this change? Please fix this.”
User @ytRosie also finds the change bad on X.com: “Make it right!!!!” User @sium_dummy wonders on X.com: “How can you even break something like this?”
But the hardest hit may be @john_pittsburg, who writes on X.com: “This is unironically the worst thing Rockstar has ever done to this game”.
Under the post of the discoverer, hardly anyone finds the change good. However, the fact that this discovery was made only months after the actual patch shows that the feature is probably not very significant, even if many liked the wobble bollards.
GTA 5 has captivated many gamers for years. Even MeinMMO editor Dariusz spent a four-digit number of hours in the open-world game until it turned him into a sweaty shooter tryhard: I spent 1,800 hours in GTA V – and it made me a sweaty shooter tryhard
