At the beginning of next year, Netflix will venture into the next live-action adaptation of a popular animated series. This could reopen a rather deep wound for fans. However, the first trailer already offers some hope.
What series is it? Avatar: The Last Airbender is a live-action adaptation of the animated series of the same name from 2005.
The series takes place in a world where some of its inhabitants master one of the four elements.
The story of the series begins 100 years after the Fire Nation has wiped out the Air Nomads. Among them was to be the next Avatar, the only one who can master all four elements at once.
But Katara and her brother Sokka, from the Southern Water Tribe, one day find Aang, the last living airbender and the next Avatar. Trapped in a massive ball of ice, he survived all these years. Now they embark on a mission to save the world from the Fire Nation.

What does the trailer show? For being a teaser, the video shows quite a lot.
The trailer gives you a first glimpse of various locations in the world. For example, you can see Omashu, a large city in the Earth Kingdom, the capital of the Fire Nation, or Avatar Roku’s island. Each location at least conveys the impression that the team put a lot of thought into it.
You can also meet a few new characters in the trailer. For the first time, you get to see Suki and her warriors. Their makeup and costumes already look quite promising.
Additionally, you finally see Appa, the flying sky bison, in action. The kind giant already looks just as fluffy as you always envisioned him.
We also see Momo, the little flying lemur, in this teaser for the first time properly. His design is also entirely based on the original.
Above all, the trailer already manages to capture the atmosphere through the conflict, the characters’ traits, and the beauty of the animated series better than the 2010 film – which for many fans does not exist.
When is the release? The premiere is on February 22, 2024, on Netflix.
Fans are cautiously optimistic, but the trailer gives goosebumps
What are the reactions? This is also evident from the reactions in the comments via YouTube. Many don’t seem as concerned as they were when the announcement was made. This is probably partly due to the success of the live-action adaptation of One Piece.
But this new trailer likely gives fans hope as well. For example, user words-with-wooly notes that it really looks like the series has potential. They use the original soundtrack, it looks stunning visually, and at least it seems like they are sticking to the original in the bending.
Like others, words-with-wooly hopes that they don’t ruin the story. After all, it is for this that the series is loved by many.
