The boxes in the shop of Pokémon GO are a point that players have been criticizing for a long time. However, at the moment there is a box that players consider a good deal.
What kind of box is this? The shop currently has a new “Exploration Box” for 375 coins. It includes:
- 5 Super Incubators
- 5 Egg Incubators
375 coins is an unusually low price, especially compared to other offers. A Super Incubator alone costs 200 coins, while a single Egg Incubator still costs 150 coins.
However, each user can only buy the box once. But the coins might be worth it.
For comparison: The similarly priced “Apprentice Box” for 400 coins includes only one Super Incubator and one Egg Incubator, plus a Premium Battle Pass (which costs 100 coins by itself).
The cheaper Exploration Box therefore offers more incubators for fewer coins.
Players are excited about the unusually good box
This is how players react: In the Pokémon GO subreddit “TheSilphRoad”, the box has elicited surprised but positive reactions. Here are some examples:
- “The first box I’ve bought in a long time,” writes a user who says he wouldn’t have discovered the box without the reddit post (via reddit): “I’m just so used to boxes being bad that I don’t check them anymore.”
- “This must be a glitch; this is actually a good deal,” writes another user (via reddit).
- “Oh my God, this is actually good” (via reddit).
- “This is the most generous offer Niantic has made this year, except for the first weekly box that had 3 Super Incubators for one coin,” says user MarkusEF (via reddit).
“A surprisingly good offer,” comments another user (via reddit), who also expresses skepticism: “But how likely is it that this replaces the daily free incubators that were available during the holidays?”
This incubator bonus has typically been available during the holidays in December: the first PokéStop spin of the day then awarded an incubator. In 2021, this bonus was during the second part of the Christmas event. What this year will look like is still unknown and remains to be seen.
What is the problem with the boxes in Pokémon GO?
The boxes in Pokémon GO have been criticized for months, and it is rare for new boxes to be received positively as seen here. For example, there were changes to the content of the boxes in the summer of 2022 that were not well received by players.
The YouTuber Spieltrend had also joined the significant criticism of the boxes back then. In addition, the “weekly box”, which had been regularly available for 1 coin in the shop for some time, was removed after it had previously replaced the weekly remote raid passes in May 2022.
The new box in the shop is, on the other hand, an example that is initially well received by trainers. With the incubators, it offers useful items for noticeably fewer coins. How long the box will be in the shop is currently unknown – what is certain is that each user can only buy it once.
