After ongoing DDOS attacks on H1Z1 and other games from DGC, CEO John Smedley is stepping back from the social media platform Twitter. The social media distracts him too much.
The CEO of Daybreak Gaming Company (H1Z1, Everquest, Planetside 2) John Smedley has withdrawn from Twitter and deleted his account there.
He loves developing games. And he will not let himself be distracted by it. Life is too short to lose sight of the things that matter. Therefore, he will leave Twitter and not regret it for a second, even though he will miss personal contact with players over Twitter.
John Smedley announced this on reddit after questions arose about whether his account had been hacked and deleted. His Reddit account has also been deleted now.
After he publicly lamented the verdict against a 17-year-old cybercriminal who had treated him poorly last week, the servers of DGC Games were reportedly attacked by the gang of the cybercriminal or their sympathizers with DDOS attacks. Some players of DGC Games blame Smedley for this attack.
Industry veteran Smedley was seen as a CEO, who was reachable and approachable for players via social media. This is unusual for people in his position – especially since Smedley also said controversial things on social media, not just indulging in PR-speak. After the incidents last year, Smedley had noticeably held back for a while. A cybercriminal had forced a flight to make an emergency landing with a bomb threat directed at Smedley.
