The plans were to create an additional secure source for these coveted cores. In the next season, new bounties should therefore be introduced at the Gunsmith that reward players with guaranteed cores. The previous scrap collector bounties were to be eliminated.

Therefore, Bungie has now adjusted the original idea for Season 7 as follows:
- Originally, the new bounties were to be obtainable at the Gunsmith for weapon materials. Now, they are to be purchasable with Glimmer instead.
- There will be several daily bounties at the Gunsmith. Each of these will reward Guardians with a guaranteed improvement core and two mod components.
- Additionally, there will be two weekly bounties. These should reward players with a guaranteed improvement core, a mod (for weapon or armor), as well as additional materials or reputation/rank points.
- The points include, for example, Recklessness or Valor points. However, there will not be any Glory points from the competitive playlist.
What does this mean for players? Since the new bounties will be available for Glimmer, they are basically “free”. Players no longer need to provide weapon parts for them – one of the biggest points of criticism of the original plan – and can use this resource for mod components or reputation upgrades and packages at the Gunsmith.
Furthermore, it should now be possible for almost every player to earn sufficient cores. Considering several daily bounties at the Gunsmith and factoring in the weekly bounties as well as other sources like the Spider, there should be no more core shortage with this system – even if the scrap collector bounties are eliminated.
This is how fans are reacting to this adjustment: Many players are pleased with this news and now consider this new plan to be an acceptable solution. Thus, the core shortage should soon be resolved for players with less time as well. However, some fans are now even more intensely demanding the complete abolition of cores as a required material for infusing.
Because soon it seems that everyone will be able to earn enough cores without any issues, making them not a real factor for infusing anymore. However, some fans do not understand why they would still need them at all. Then the improvement cores could be completely removed from this process.
