In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and the Warzone, a recent wave of bans caused a stir. Now Activision has apparently reacted and reversed numerous bans.
This is the ban wave: At the beginning of the week, the wave of bans drew much criticism of Call of Duty. Many players reported that they had been wrongfully banned. They claimed they never cheated in the game and cannot understand the ban.
According to insiders, this wave of bans was supposed to target toxic players. Those who were abusive or made racist comments should receive a permanent ban. However, even in this case, players asserted their innocence.
Initial bans have been lifted
This is being reported now: On Reddit, there are various entries stating that numerous bans have been lifted. After reportedly being banned permanently, players can now play again.
CrooksyNI writes on reddit: “It looks like my account has been unbanned after being the victim of an unfair ban, like many others here.”
Also, the YouTuber RDTechy, who was also affected by the wave of bans, has now been unbanned:
What do the developers say about this? So far, there is no information from the developers. They seem to be lifting the bans rather quietly. They have not commented on the imposed bans or whether there have been accidental bans.
Why was there a wave of bans at all? Cheaters are generally a problem in CoD, especially in Warzone. These can be played for free, and it doesn’t hurt the cheaters too much when they get banned.
As early as May, a new security update was introduced in Modern Warfare. This requires players to register via 2FA and provide their phone number. If a player was then permanently banned, their phone number was banned as well.
Now Activision also wants to take action against toxic players. Recently, they also removed a gesture from Modern Warfare because it was deemed racist. The developers are pursuing a zero-tolerance policy and are now also taking action against players who are said to have made racist comments in the chat.
