Crafting in Last Epoch is important to customize specific effects of individual items for your builds. It is also necessary for certain defensive values. If you feel too weak, the solution is usually that you haven’t customized your items correctly.
A player reached out to the community on March 18 on Reddit and noted that they have spent 85 hours in Last Epoch and leveled two characters. However, both are far too weak for the endgame content.
They posted a link to their build and asked what they did wrong. The community reacted with surprise that they got so far at all.

What is the player doing wrong? In the comments, several users note that the poster apparently has never customized an item of their build. The top comment comes from CloudConductor: “Honestly, I am impressed that you made it this far without crafting.”
“How can you collect crafting shards for 85+ hours and not think: ‘hmm, maybe I can actually use them,’ lol,” writes a user. “The fact that you got this far with such poor equipment and without crafting is really impressive – seriously dedicated.”
What does the community say about it? One user comments: “Press F and discover a whole new world.” Pressing F opens the forge in Last Epoch – and this can even be done on the go. Several users wonder how the player managed to completely ignore using the forge, as it is even part of several quests. You are essentially “forced” to use it.
The user “soundecho944” believes that introducing new players to crafting is a problem in Last Epoch. For veterans of Last Epoch or Path of Exile, it is easy. However, more guidance for new players would be beneficial. Another user agrees and writes that they were confused at first that there were forges in some cities. Essentially, you don’t really need them.
Other users give crafting tips in the comments and highlight that it is useful early on. “ItsRyBear” writes: “Apart from a few rare shards […] shards are plentiful, so you can gradually improve your equipment. This will make your character more powerful.”
