Mein-MMO author Julian Schröder finally pulled his ultimate dream card in FIFA 22: Ronaldinho. Here you will find out how well the Mid-Icon version of the Brazilian legend plays and why that’s even a problem.
In FUT, there are cards that are so strong and so expensive that an average FUT player doesn’t even consider the possibility of owning them someday. These include icons like R9, Maradona, Pelé, Gullit, Zidane, Eusebio, or Ronaldinho.
These incredibly strong cards cost countless coins, and even if you invest money in FIFA, you have to spend quite a lot of Euros to afford such a card.
I personally dreamed of a Ronaldinho card for years, a football hero of my childhood, who captivated fans with his ease and beautiful tricks and goals in real football.
But just when I had long forgotten about the card, I actually pulled it with a huge stroke of luck – without investing money in the game. And now, nothing in FIFA 22 is as it was before.
This is how I got the card: In FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, you can currently get a Mid or Prime Icon Player Pick. To do this, you have to complete a 4-part SBC (Squad Building Challenge), in which you have to submit two 87-rated, one 86-rated, and one 84-rated team. Once you complete that, you receive 3 completely random and untradeable Mid or Prime Icon cards, from which you can choose one.
Fortunately, I had piled up a bunch of SBC fodder in the club and could complete this SBC quite cheaply, needing to bring in “only” an additional 80,000 coins for the remaining cards.
Not a bad deal considering that the SBC currently costs around 550,000 coins and the Mid-Icon card of Ronaldinho is worth a staggering 2,000,000 coins. A dizzying price that I have never been able to pay for a card in FUT.
However, it’s completely possible to get it without using coins, thanks to Icon Swaps 2. However, you have to collect 12 Icon Swaps tokens for the same Player Pick and then trade them in.
I can’t stop playing FIFA because of Ronaldinho
This is how the card improves my team: Before the Brazilian legend enriched my team, my hard-earned squad was valued at nearly 900,000 coins according to futbin, with Cafu alone, whom I received through the first Icon Swaps, making up 330,000 coins.
With Ronaldinho, the value skyrockets to an incredible 3,000,000 coins, meaning that this one card is worth more than double what my other cards earned through sweat and hard grind.
This is how Mid-Ronaldinho plays: There aren’t many words needed about the stats of the Mid-Icon version of Ronaldinho. The card has top-level stats and excels particularly in pace, shooting, passing, and dribbling. Additionally, he naturally has 5-star skill moves and scores with 4 stars for his weak foot.
I decided to play Ronaldinho in attack with Thomas Müller and improved his speed, shooting stats, and defensive stats even more with the Hawk chemistry style.
I started the first Division Rivals match in Division 3, and the card didn’t take long to impress me. The ball hit the back of the net three times in the first game, with the scorer: Ronaldinho. After that, I played more matches, and Ronaldinho scored at least once every time and quickly pushed me into Division 2.
He is always in the right place, moves quickly and smoothly, and seems incapable of missing a goal. The card is absurdly easy to play and scores from almost any position. Even long shots and free kicks are a piece of cake for the Brazilian.
It’s incredibly fun to hunt for goals with Ronaldinho and utilize the fantastic dribbling stats and 5-star skill moves to dance through the defense and score goals like on an assembly line.
The card is nearly unfair and that’s a problem
This is the problem with absolute top cards: As much fun as it is for me to score one goal after another with Ronaldinho and dazzle my opponents, I can’t ignore the big problem in the back of my mind: Pay2Win.
Because if I’m honest, this card is better than anything I’ve played in FUT over the past few years, and not everyone has the chance to play such a card. You can save up for such a card through time-intensive trading with a lot of effort and patience.
However, most players get absolute top cards either through luck or by spending real money. And when FUT players are willing to spend several hundred or even thousands of Euros in Ultimate Team, they simply have a tangible advantage over so many players who do not invest money and simply don’t have pack luck.
And pack luck is essential. After 6 years of FUT, I’ve completed numerous Icon SBCs and never had the big luck on my side. I pulled players like Baby Ballack, Pirlo, and even the baby version of Lothar Matthäus once. But I have never pulled such an unfair and simultaneously magnificent card as Ronaldinho.
