In August, the colorful battle royale game Fall Guys launched on PS Plus. Just 3 weeks later, it is now the most downloaded PS Plus game of all time.
Fall Guys was one of the free games for PS Plus in August 2020 just a few weeks ago. Now PlayStation announced on Twitter that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is the most downloaded game of all time on PS Plus. The official Twitter account stated:
Notably, the release of the game coincided with its launch on PS Plus. The game has only been on the market for just over 3 weeks.
That’s why the game is so successful: The developers of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout deliberately chose PS Plus as the release channel for their new game.
The reason: a lack of a large marketing budget. Therefore, they teamed up with Sony. This free model has proven to be very successful: Rocket League once followed the same path and has developed well.
Multiplayer games like Rocket League or now Fall Guys benefit from PS Plus much more in the long run than pure single-player titles. This is a lucrative deal for both Sony and the developers of Mediatonic.
And just how successful the game is can also be seen on Steam: Because as soon as Fall Guys launched there, the official servers of Fall Guys crashed.

What is Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout? Fall Guys brings mini-games and competitions into the battle royale format: Instead of equipping yourselves with weapons and eliminating all opponents from the map like in Fortnite, you must compete against a total of 59 other players in a series of crazy challenges in Fall Guys. It’s more about the chaotic fun than winning.
This is reminiscent of Takeshi’s Castle, a Japanese TV show from the 80s. Here, contestants competed against each other and had to complete crazy tasks from King Takeshi. The often ridiculous failures of others attracted many viewers, and it’s no different with Fall Guys: Succeeding through failure: Twitch loves it when TimTheTatman loses in Fall Guys.
