In the forest of Elwynn, it will soon look prettier – but everywhere else too. One of the oldest creatures in World of Warcraft is finally getting an update.
Often, the overall picture of an expansion for World of Warcraft gets overlooked, yet it significantly contributes to the atmosphere of the game: updates to already known creatures. Because over the more than 20 years, many beings in WoW simply no longer look contemporary. Therefore, in Dragonflight, the Furbolgs and Gnolls were modernized, and now it’s happening to a few more peaceful creatures – cows. Exactly these have instantly won the community over.
Dataminers find cow models in the Alpha: The Alpha of Midnight is currently only playable by invitation, and many contents are not yet available. However, dataminers are already dissecting the game data down to the smallest detail. In the process, they have not only found the likely release date for Midnight but also many new character and creature models.
Especially the cows look exceptionally detailed. This is not surprising considering that the old models are nearly 20 years old.
Community is amused but has clear wishes
As trivial as a new cow model might seem to most WoW fans, in the WoW subreddit, it has garnered over 1,200 upvotes and a lot of amused yet serious comments wishing for more:

- “Finally a few adjustments for the Tauren.” – glamscum
- “This looks better than most playable races now.” – Nebularith
A few hunters are also hoping to be able to tame the cows in the future to go into battle alongside them.
Cortyn says: For me, these small detail changes, like those to particularly old models, are often much more interesting than entirely new creatures. Seeing how the same things evolve in World of Warcraft over the years seems to have a special appeal for many WoW fans – including me. Therefore, I am always very excited when things get a revamp that I first encountered when I set foot into the Nordhaintal for the first time…
