Did you think a 5-minute cooldown was annoying? Then wait two years for the cooldown of a Diablo 3 item.
In various video games, we encounter cooldowns repeatedly: some exist on items, others on abilities. The cooldown sets a limit on the uses within a certain timeframe. This prevents particularly powerful skills from being spammed and allows them to be used only every few minutes.
In Diablo 3, there are cooldowns on health potions to prevent players from becoming immortal by spamming the potion hotkey. Apparently, a bug caused a potion’s cooldown to last several years.
2 Years Cooldown on Diablo 3 Potion
In November 2015, Reddit user iTech1234 posted a picture on Reddit. He titled it “Hmm … crap.”.
The picture shows a legendary potion that increases the user’s armor by 19% for 5 seconds after use. The cooldown is unusually high, instead of the usual 30 seconds.
“Remaining cooldown: 1193045 minutes” – that’s approximately 2.2 years or roughly 27 months. In the Reddit thread from 2015, readers set reminders to notify them when these 27 months were up.
At the beginning of February 2018, the big day arrived: the cooldown was up. This was announced in the Diablo subreddit. There, readers set reminders again for when the next 27 months were up and when the player could use his potion again.
We hope that player iTech1234 still has this potion in his inventory and has given it a special place.
If the high cooldown is real and not “photoshopped”, it is likely a bug. Such abstractly high cooldowns are unusual even for Diablo 3.
