It took a long time, but World of Warcraft finally has a dance studio. Not quite as it was announced back then – but still quite funny.
There are a number of running gags in World of Warcraft that have persisted for years and now even decades. One of them was the implementation of a dance studio, which was originally intended for “Wrath of the Lich King”.
It only took six additional expansions to finally make this dream a reality. Because World of Warcraft now has a dance studio that you can get at the Darkmoon Faire.
How does the game work? As you walk through the fair almost to the end, a new tent has opened on the left side. In front of it, you’ll find the NPC Simon Sagan (Simon Sezdans), who lets you participate in a new game for tokens.
Basically, the mini-game is based on the game “Simon Says”, where you have to replicate the order shown exactly to get full points.
In World of Warcraft, this is represented by different runes. Depending on the difficulty level, you have to dance back a different number of “pre-danced runes” in quick succession. This game repeats multiple times, and the more precise you are, the more points you get.
Your dance partner might, for example, indicate this combo: Blue – Purple – Blue – Yellow – Purple.
After that, you have a few seconds to dance back exactly these runes in the same order.
What kind of dance studio is this? The original idea of a dance studio was that players could create their own dances for their characters. It was supposed to function almost like an additional character customization option but was ultimately discarded with the release of Wrath of the Lich King – just like some other features. It simply did not work as the developers had hoped.
Now there is at least a – albeit somewhat different – dance event in World of Warcraft.
What does it bring? The mini-game is, like most activities at the Darkmoon Faire, associated with numerous achievements. At three different difficulty levels, you can dance for quite a while before you’ve collected all the achievements. To achieve the achievements, you need to complete the dance game 10 times at each difficulty with a perfect score.
In the end, as a reward, there’s even a “Darkmoon Dance Party” toy (“Dance Dance Darkmoon”), with which you can dance anywhere in the world! This means you now always have your “dance studio” with you.
When can you play the dance game? You can only play it when the Darkmoon Faire is open. This is usually from the 1st Sunday of the month until the following Saturday. So you still have time until March 12 if you want to get the achievements.
From now on, you can at least regularly dance at the Darkmoon Faire and even earn a dance studio toy while doing so. Unfortunately, the item is not yet classified as a “toy”, so it must be carried in your inventory.
Blizzard will certainly change this with one of the upcoming patches – after all, most of the other Darkmoon items have been converted into toys.
How do you like the dance game at the Darkmoon Faire?
