For 16 years, players in World of Warcraft have completed quests one after another. They have always seen the quest markers “!” or “?”. With Shadowlands, these are now partially being replaced.
This is currently the case in WoW: Every quest, no matter how important or trivial it is, is marked with the famous marker “!”. Once a quest is completed and can be handed in to the quest giver, the familiar “?” appears above the quest giver. After 16 years, Blizzard wants to change this somewhat, improving the questing experience.
Story quests are highlighted
Currently, the alpha of the next WoW expansion Shadowlands is running, and players have made a small discovery. Blizzard has replaced the famous markers “!” and “?” for story-relevant quests. They are now highlighted with a badge in the background.
Here’s why that’s good: Those who do not know WoW might be wondering “So what?” and this question is not unfounded. The change may seem simple and unimportant, but it alters the entire perspective on quests, which make up a major part of the world.
Whether it’s main, side, faction, or profession quests, they all use the same symbol. Only the color may differ; for example, daily repeatable tasks have a blue marker. When players enter a new area, they often take on all possible tasks without knowing which ones are relevant for story progress.
The highlighting of the main quest now allows players to make more conscious choices about which quests to pursue. Like in a single-player RPG, players can now choose whether to master all side missions first or focus on the story of Shadowlands.
Questing in WoW will be more convenient
In addition to the highlighted markers, all quests in World of Warcraft will also be more convenient. If you are near the active task, a marker will appear at the target, similar to what various quest addons already do.
This allows you to focus entirely on questing without having to constantly open the map.
