One of the oldest stories from WoW finally reaches a conclusion. The search for “Mankrik’s Wife” is finally over.
Hardly any story in World of Warcraft has waited so long for a conclusion as that of Mankrik and his wife. Now, with the upcoming expansion Shadowlands, we finally learn what happened to Mankrik’s wife and where she is. Because she has apparently made it to the Shadowlands.
Who is Mankrik’s wife? The questline about Mankrik and the search for his wife is likely to evoke old quest trauma for many Horde players. Early on in the Barrens, Horde players during Vanilla or Classic received the mission to find Mankrik’s wife. The only clue was “somewhere to the south” – and that kept players busy for hours, if not days.
After all, there were hardly any WoW databases back then or they were still relatively unknown. Worse, Mankrik’s wife was already dead, which meant one had to search for a corpse that was even less conspicuous in the vast Barrens.
In Cataclysm, the questline was removed, in its place there is a small memorial for Olgra – it was there that her name was revealed.
Where is Olgra now? In Shadowlands, players have now found Olgra. She has apparently been chosen by the Soulbinder as a warrior and sent to Maldraxxus. There she now fights in the arena as part of the army to protect the Shadowlands from enemies.
Anyone wanting to visit her must seek out the Burning Glade in the west of Maldraxxus, where she fights against Ranishus. So far, she doesn’t seem to be involved in any questline.
A meme becomes a legend: Over the years, the question “Where is Mankrik’s wife?” has become just as recurring a meme in WoW as the question of whether someone said “Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker”.
In the future, you can finally give a clear answer to the question about Mankrik’s wife: She is in the afterlife and fighting. Not against pricklebush anymore, but against similarly annoying characters.
Thus, a story that began almost 16 years ago finally finds its temporary conclusion in World of Warcraft.
