A new patch for Minecraft finally brings more variety for animal lovers. More pigs and prettier forests with foliage.
Minecraft is one of those games that will probably never truly be “finished.” There are always new updates and improvements that introduce new content to the survival game. The latest snapshot, the newest patch version, finally brings an improvement that long-time fans have mostly addressed themselves with mods: pigs in new variations. Because after 15 years, there are finally new piglets.

What are these variations? Pigs in Minecraft have only existed in one form so far: the typical pink variant. Whether you were exploring the jungle, researching icy tundras, or wandering around large flower meadows – pigs looked the same everywhere in Minecraft. This has long been a thorn in the side of many players, as little has changed about pigs for 15 years. This is now changing, as there is now a new “cold” and a “warm” variation of pigs.
- The cold pigs have a yellowish-white coloring and, by the look of it, even a little fur to keep them warm in the cold temperatures.
- The warm pigs have a more brownish-orange coloring.
Where can you find the pigs? The location of the pigs can already be guessed from their names.
- “Warm” pigs can be found in all biomes with great warmth. These are, for example, the jungle, various savannas, or the wastelands.
- “Cold” pigs can primarily be found in the taiga biomes or in the windy forests. If you find snow, these pigs are usually nearby.
- “Normal” pigs: In all biomes where the other two variants do not occur – a temperate climate.
Pigs of different variants are compatible with each other, so they can be used for breeding. The resulting piglet will randomly have the appearance of one of the two parent animals. Hybrid forms do not exist – unlike with sheep.
Note that the new pigs are currently only available in the snapshot. It will still take a while before they transition into the live version of Minecraft.
What else is new? Apart from the new pigs, there are also a few adjustments to the forests. Forests now generate foliage, which can be collected by characters and processed into blocks. This is likely to lead to foliage having a greater impact on the game’s environment in the long run, as many forests will now be covered with foliage on the ground.
Other new features include adjusted recipe costs for the lodestone (to fix compasses) and the fact that you can now name the creepy mob “Creaking” with a plaque, allowing it to survive during the day and not be immediately destroyed – provided it is not destroyed in other ways.
