“Edge of Tomorrow,” a sci-fi blockbuster featuring Tom Cruise, was released in 2014. Now, the Hollywood actor has made a deal with Warner Bros. A sequel to the film is thus quite conceivable.
In 2014, Edge of Tomorrow, a sci-fi blockbuster, was released in which Tom Cruise dies as Major Bill Cage while fighting against aliens. However, he soon awakens again, only to relive that one day over and over.
Together with Rita Vrataski, he then seeks a way to finally defeat the aliens and escape the time loop.
According to Variety, Tom Cruise has signed a contract that would also allow for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow even 10 years later.
Here is a trailer for Edge of Tomorrow:
What kind of deal is this? The actor signed a contract to develop and produce films with Warner Bros. Discovery. This includes both new films and sequels to existing franchises.
As part of a new “strategic partnership,” Cruise and his production company will also have offices on the Warner Bros. Discovery lot in Burbank (via Variety).
The actor is already working on several projects with Warner Bros. In addition to their last joint project, Edge of Tomorrow, they include Magnolia and Rock of Ages. Interview with the Vampire, Eyes Wide Shut, and Risky Business are also part of their joint repertoire.
But that doesn’t mean that Tom Cruise can only make films from Warner Bros. He can continue to participate in projects from competing companies.
Co-star Emily Blunt would certainly also be on board for a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, as you can read here from our colleagues at Moviepilot: One of the best sci-fi films of the century might finally get a part 2 – and the lead actress is so ready
Through this collaboration, it seems more likely than ever that Edge of Tomorrow might indeed be continued – even 10 years after the first part. Especially considering that the contract also covers sequels to existing franchises and that the last film with Cruise was a financial success for Warner.
