Streamer Adriana Chechik (30) broke her back in two places at TwitchCon in San Diego on 10/09 while jumping into a foam pit from a PR attraction by Lenovo Legion. Three weeks later, on 10/29, she is back on Twitch, talking about her surgery and saying: In the hospital, she learned that she was pregnant. She could not keep the child.
What happened to Adriana Chechik?
- At TwitchCon in San Diego, there was an attraction by “Lenovo Legion” – two platforms were built over a pit filled with foam blocks. The idea: Twitch streamers were to hit each other with padded sticks until one fell from the platform into the pit.
- Streamer Adriana Chechik won her fight and jumped triumphantly into the foam pit. In the process, she broke her back in two places and had to go to the hospital.
- The attraction was later closed for safety reasons. It turned out that the pit was only covered with a thin layer of foam blocks. In one spot, the pit was reportedly less than 61 centimeters deep. Twitch and the organizers were heavily criticized, including by Chechik herself, who said: Casters had encouraged jumping into the pit feet first.
Learned about the pregnancy only in the hospital
This is what the streamer says now: In a Twitch stream from 10/29, Chechik says she learned in the hospital that she was pregnant at the time of the fall:
I don’t care if everyone knows now, but I was pregnant. And I only found out when I was in the hospital. So I was also totally under crazy hormones. But now I am no longer pregnant, because of the surgery. I couldn’t keep it.
She does not say much more about the pregnancy, emphasizing mainly that her hormones “went through the roof”.
After that, she talks about the pain spikes she now has regularly and how she should cope with them. It is important to pay attention to her breathing, someone also comes to calm her down, which helps.
She says she can’t constantly take pills; her mother became addicted to Oxycodone after a car accident. She has to regulate herself strictly there.
Last night at 5 a.m. she had a panic attack, took Oxycodone for the first time, and felt immediately healed and wanted to start a workout. That’s “good stuff” – which everyone rightfully warns against.
Oxycodone is definitely very nice, but I only have 10 and I can only take one pill when I have immense pain. I can’t take it daily – my mother was addicted to pills. But that’s normal; I freak out twice a day from pain, that’s okay.
Streamer had top doctors in a specialty clinic, wanted to keep only a small scar
How is she doing now? The streamer says she still suffers from the aftereffects of the surgery. Breathing is difficult for her. She is constantly out of breath. Just holding the phone is enough to exhaust her.
The 30-year-old says she was taken to a hospital for trauma medicine, where one of the best teams for neurosurgery operated: She had a team of 8 doctors taking care of her.
Chechik was in the hospital for 4 days before she was operated on: The doctors prepared for the surgery to avoid nerve damage and other complications that were not immediately apparent in a CT or MRI scan, as Chechik informs her viewers.
What was important to the streamer? The streamer says it was especially important to her that she does not keep too large a scar because she works as a model. Therefore, she asked the doctors if they could hide the surgical scars well.
She is now satisfied with the scar.
These are the reactions: Many fans express their sympathy to the streamer. They are also surprised at how quickly she is back. Many say: injuries to the back are life-changing. Many are also impressed by the work of the doctors.
A user from reddit says he has a much worse scar from a significantly less harmful surgical procedure. Some users on reddit wish that Chechik would sue Twitch and the operators of the attraction.
