Actor Lance Reddick has delighted the players of Destiny 2: He voices the role of Zavala, a legendary Guardian in the game, and has something to say to the Cabal, a race of aggressive space turtles.
Who is he? Lance Reddick is a well-known American actor. He has played several cult roles: for instance, he portrays the concierge Charon in the “John Wick” films and always has to take care of the dog. The striking actor has appeared in important roles in cult series such as Oz, The Wire, or Fringe.
Reddick is closely associated with video games. In Destiny, he has voiced the role of Zavala since the beginning. He is the grumpy leader of the Titans, who always appeals to caution and a sense of duty. So he has a more “serious role” compared to the fun characters like Cayde-6 or the constantly shouting Shaxx.
Reddick gives the Cabal the response Destiny players want to hear
This makes Reddick now happy for the fans: Reddick records a clip on Twitter, a kind of meme. In the trailer for the new Season 13, the “Season of the Chosen,” Cabal Princess Caiatl proposed an alliance with the Guardians. But only on the condition that the Guardians submit to the Cabal. That is certainly completely unacceptable.
The Cabal are a race of militarized armored turtles that are traditionally hated by the Guardians.
In Destiny 2, Zavala simply says “No” to the demand to submit, but that was not enough for the Guardians. In their version, Zavala is supposed to say something entirely different. Reddick has now made the fans happy by reading the response that Zavala should have given:
“Hello, what? One damn Guardian has been kicking your entire race’s ass for 9 years. They’ve killed gods and turned them into guns, wiped out entire races just for loot, taken out your last leader, and plundered your daddy’s ship while writing fan fiction about them and peacing out. And now he’s making you clean up the mess.
The only reason I didn’t bring the Guardians is that they occasionally use Darkness as a weapon to kick some ass in a new way. All I have to do to have them make mincemeat out of you is to tell them that you have a cool new weapon or that Eris can turn you into a gun.
So think about it before you tell us to bow down to your sad ass.”
This is the reception: The Guardians love it. People who normally follow Reddick and have nothing to do with Destiny look a bit puzzled. But generally, it’s pretty cool that an actor like Reddick participates in such nonsense.
The video has now nearly half a million views and almost 40,000 likes.
Destiny is known for its excellent casting for voices. They managed to get some prominent voices after having a bit of trouble with Peter Dinklage as the “Ghost” in Destiny 1:
