With the new update for Season 2 of Call of Duty: Cold War and CoD Warzone, the files have grown even larger. Now Activision states in a blog post: Anyone who wants to install all current CoD titles with all content may not be able to do so with a standard PS4.
What is the problem? Cold War and Warzone have received the new Season 2, which requires additional storage space on all platforms. The downloads vary in size depending on the system and require:
- PS5: 17 GB
- PS4: 17 GB
- Xbox Series X|S: 17.9 GB
- Xbox One: 17.9 GB
- PC: 16.9 GB (Warzone only)
- PC: 20.8 GB (Warzone & Cold War)
Anyone who wants to install the new update on PS4 also needs 100 GB of free space in order to download the patch at all. Storage space has been a significant problem on consoles since Modern Warfare (2019).
Now Activision explains in a blog post: Anyone who wants to install Modern Warfare/Warzone and Cold War with all content on their standard PS4 will probably have to remove some content. The internal hard drive with 500 GB is supposedly no longer sufficient.
How to delete individual parts of Call of Duty on PS4
How do I make space? Activision advises removing unused content from the CoD titles. This can be done in both or all three games with a few simple inputs:
- For Cold War: Press R3 in the menu and navigate to “File Management”. There you can choose which content from Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies, and Dead Ops Arcade you want to uninstall.
- For Modern Warfare & Warzone: Go to the options in the main menu and look for the “General” section. There you can remove the content you do not need under “Game Installation”.
Additionally, the publisher points out that you do not need to have Cold War installed if you want to play Warzone and vice versa. This can save additional storage space.
Why is the update so large? The new seasons of Call of Duty always contain a lot of content. For Season 2 of Cold War and Warzone, there will be a new map and two new modes for Warzone and a huge map for the Zombie mode in Cold War with four new modes.
The downside of having all this content is naturally the enormous size, which particularly seems to be a problem for PS4 players now. At least if you only want to play one of the games or can forgo single-player or co-op missions, the storage space should be sufficient.
