The action RPG Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem launched on Steam last night and immediately entered the top 10 of the Steam charts. And this despite some annoying bugs that are affecting the Steam reviews. The rating on Steam has dropped by 11% in less than 18 hours.
How successful is the action RPG? Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem launched on February 13 at around 6 PM on Steam. As Steamcharts shows, the player numbers skyrocketed. A peak of 62,385 concurrent players was reached immediately.
At the time of this news, 42,461 players are playing the hack ‘n slash.
This means Wolcen has directly entered the top 10 of the most played titles on Steam and is currently ranked 10th. The gap to ARK: Survival Evolved in 9th place is small, and it is quite possible that Wolcen will fight its way further up in the top 10.
Despite bugs, a success
Why is this interesting? There are two points that make this ranking so interesting:
- It shows that players are thirsty for a new action RPG. After the announcement of Diablo 4, some are really eager for a new hack ‘n slash, and Wolcen looks quite similar to Diablo 4 due to its dark visuals and seems to fill this gap.
- The launch of Wolcen did not go smoothly. The servers are still facing issues, and players are reporting some bugs. While these do dampen the fun of the game, they do not diminish interest in the action RPG.
Invincible enemies in the starting zone
What are players criticizing? It is currently barely possible to play online, as the servers are overloaded due to the influx of players. Offline, however, some are already gaining experience and also reporting bugs.
- Hideo Tsui states on Steam: “The game cannot be started in online mode. It is a great game if only one could play online…”
- RoscoeMarsh writes: “So far, so bad between the invincible enemies in the starting zones, to the fact that one can create a game in 1/5 of the time…”
- ollyhal explains: “Bugs galore (release version from 13.2.2020). I don’t even know where to start… Enemies unreachable, enemies not targetable, invisible walls, during the first boss fight (cave building) you get teleported out in the middle of the fight and are back in front of the cave… Seems Gamestar might have had the right version…”
Are there also dissenting voices? There are many positive voices. These even currently outweigh, as Wolcen has a current rating of 82% on Steam in the “recent reviews.”
- Moofreak writes on Steam: “Good game. Plays very smoothly and there are interesting skills. The story is also good so far. Currently, I have only noticed some minor bugs – nothing that ruins the game.”
- Keebz says: “A really solid ARPG with amazing graphics and smooth combat. I am already looking forward to continuing to play. Online seems to be a bit laggy at the moment, as the launch is overloading the servers, so I am playing offline.”
- slothzrcool explains: “It is much better than Diablo 3 so far.”
Current Steam reviews drop from 93% to 82% for Wolcen
This is interesting: Before the release version, the Steam reviews from the last 30 days were at 93%. Only the early access versions were counted.
Within 16 hours, this value has now dropped to 82%, as many players were disappointed with the version.
