Rank 2: Pathfinder 2nd Edition
Directly the next Pathfinder? Yes! But this time it is standalone and cannot be combined with material from D&D or Pathfinder 1. The difference is that Pathfinder 2 has revised rules that are somewhat more beginner-friendly than those from Pathfinder 1.
However, that does not mean there is little depth to the game. Complex characters can also be created in Pathfinder 2. The combat system relies on a free action point system instead of fixed attack and movement actions. With 3 actions each, you can do whatever you want in your turn, such as moving or attacking multiple times. However, each subsequent attack comes with a penalty.
For whom is Pathfinder 2nd Edition? You should prefer the second edition of Pathfinder if you are a newcomer to the Pen&Paper cosmos. Even with somewhat simpler rules, great adventures and characters can emerge.
Pathfinder 2 is closest to the D&D rules, but has its own beautiful ideas and a unique identity.
