A woman in the USA is accused of deliberately defrauding American companies. This mainly involves allegations of espionage and conspiracy. Because through a fraud, money and especially technological advantages are said to have reached North Korea.
A woman is charged in the USA with defrauding American companies of nearly 7 million US dollars (about 6.4 million euros). This is said to be part of a large-scale fraud orchestrated from North Korea. Our colleagues from 3DJuegos report this.
North Koreans working with stolen identities in the USA
What exactly did the fraudster do? The fraudster used stolen identities of US citizens to disguise individuals from North Korea. In this way, she granted several individuals access to large and important companies in the USA. These include, among others:
- A major television broadcaster.
- A leading technology company in Silicon Valley.
- An aerospace company.
- And an automobile manufacturer.
The names of the affected companies have not been officially disclosed. Therefore, the whole matter remains somewhat obscure.
How did she hide the fraud for years? To keep the fraud from being discovered, they took an additional step: The North Koreans established a connection to their workplaces through the woman’s IP address, which in turn cashed the checks and forwarded the money to the respective employees.
In return, she charged a fee for her service. In the last four years, an estimated 7 million dollars have been transferred to North Korea, from which she is said to have earned quite a bit.
A trial is said to be underway against the woman in the USA. The FBI is investigating her for suspicion of espionage. The accusation is that valuable knowledge about technologies may have been passed on to North Korea in this way.
As reported by the BBC, the woman is accused of conspiracy in 9 cases.
