In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 there are many annoying weapons that drive players up the wall, but one is so bad that players want it deleted. You probably know it, as it neither fires bullets nor has a magazine.
Which weapon is it? It is the riot shield, which players can carry on their back with a primary weapon when equipped with the Shooter or Overkill vest.
While this is a melee weapon with little range and actually poses no lethal threat, many players still enjoy using it as “armor”. These turtles then rush through the map and shred every player around them while they remain unscathed, which really frustrates most players.
Players despise the shield, want it deleted
Why is the shield so bad? The shield, as already mentioned, acts here as armor. Players carrying the shield on their back take little to no fire, allowing them to survive ambushes better if shot from behind.
If a player carries the shield in front, they can also withstand enemy fire and then switch to their firearm during fire breaks to shoot at their enemies. In theory, this doesn’t sound that spectacular, but in practice, the tactic works extremely well.
It is unfair, but effective, and especially helpful in modes like Search and Destroy, where you are helplessly exposed due to animations. Additionally, the shield is hard to counter, as much can be blocked.
These points leave fans enraged, as they believe such a combination has no place in Call of Duty (via reddit.com). Not facing each other in combat and instead maneuvering like a turtle through the map simply doesn’t belong in the shooter and should thus be completely deleted from MW3 or turned into a killstreak.
How can one counter the shield? Although the shield is hard to counter, there are some tactics and items you can use to lure the turtle out of its cover.
It’s best to use a flash and Semtex grenade. The flash grenade should slow down the opponent, while the Semtex is placed behind the player. This will blow your enemy up.
You can also use thermite or aerosol to create area damage. This can panic the opponent, allowing you to quickly attack them from behind if they have their shield actively in front of them.
Last but not least, shock sticks are also a strong alternative to temporarily pin your opponents down. This gives you a short window to reach your enemy’s weak point and deliver the final blow.
