Yes, Telesto has Destiny 2 broken again. This time the Trials were at risk. However, the Exotic receives support from a mod in Season 15, which is now also disabled.
This Exotic is locked: Bungie had to do this in Season 15 as well: The exotic Fusion rifle Telesto was disabled on the night of September 11, 2021. The lock applies throughout the Crucible and in Gambit (via Twitter).
Why players can only laugh about the curse and why the new Trials were in danger is explained to you by MeinMMO.
This is the Telesto curse: No other weapon is as broken in the Destiny universe as Telesto. The Exotic causes bugs every season and has therefore frequently had to be disabled by Bungie .
The blame usually lies with the special projectiles of the weapon: Telesto fires small purple balls that act like sticky mines and explode later. The game doesn’t handle these things well:
- The purple bombs are registered as enemies
- You could gain unlimited ammo with them
- Telesto bypassed raid mechanics
- In the blind source, you could almost completely skip the activity
- The Exo gave Guardians maximum buffs only when they shot at the projectiles themselves
Here we have summarized the entire cursed story of Telesto for you on MeinMMO:
Telesto destroys the new Trials of Osiris
This is why the Trials were at risk: The new Trials of Osiris started on September 10 in Destiny 2 (Trials of Osiris). Bungie bragged about strong reworks and meaningful innovations that would finally make the PvP endgame attractive for everyone… but then Telesto came.
A new glitch with Telesto granted a considerable number of Orbs of Power every round. With this, one could either unleash the Super unnaturally often or supply themselves with strong buffs for “Charged with Light” builds. Especially for a competitive PvP mode, this is game-breaking.
This mod is locked: However, this time Telesto is not solely to blame for the mess. The new bug works in conjunction with the seasonal artifact mod “Thermal Clastic Bloom”. This mod has also been disabled now, completely.
With the mod, melee attacks with Solar and Stasis classes automatically grant an Orb. If you remember: Telesto projectiles are perceived by the game as enemies. So after a Telesto charge, there were just orbs raining down.
How quickly Bungie reacted: The new Telesto glitch from Season 15 made the rounds directly at the start of the Trials at 7:00 PM on September 10 (via YouTube). About 3 hours later, Bungie pulled the emergency brake and disabled Telesto and the mod.
This is really quick. In the past, Bungie needed weeks or even entire seasons for such measures. However, the current trend shows that the Destiny developer is intervening faster and more harshly when such errors destroy game balance: Destiny 2 locks 2 Exotics because raid bosses are melting and Hunters are once again dominating PvP.
Whether and when the lock will be lifted is still unclear. On September 16, Patch 3.3.0.2 is coming out – but this was already announced before the Telesto fiasco.
Bungie shouldn’t test anything and the Guardians still laugh
Although the current Season 15 is well received and player numbers speak volumes for Destiny 2, the criticism of Bungie is growing louder on one point: “Is Bungie not testing anything anymore?” is heard more and more frequently from the Guardians. Although this criticism is not new, the many locks in recent months raise this question.
This is how the community reacts: Yet somehow, Telesto enjoys largely unrestricted freedom here. Guardians have gotten used to the Exotic breaking something again. This has become a real running gag, and people are just waiting for the announcement of the lock. By the way, Telesto has had the nickname since Destiny 1: Telesto is da besto.
- “I am so proud of Telesto,” writes Dthirds3 (via reddit). It continues here: “It let us wait for a whole four weeks and slept but then finally awoke in Season 15.”
- throwaway07311999 says: “Days without Telesto incidents: 0. Our little rascal never disappoints us” (via reddit)
And also on MeinMMO, our reader jolux laughs: “Haha! Bungie has just done it again” and quotes Bungie’s Twitter announcement regarding the lock.
What do you think, can you only laugh about Telesto and the locks or do you still complain? Deep down, you knew it was only a matter of time before the curse would strike again in Season 15. Let us know your opinion in the comments.
