This week, Destiny 2 announced the catalyst for the auto rifle “Monte Carlo”. Not only is it elaborately designed, but according to Bungie, it is groundbreaking, as it is considered the most complex catalyst in the history of the loot shooter – with an unprecedented functionality. We will show you what it can do.
This desire will be made possible by the Monte Carlo catalyst: Since the release of the kinetic auto rifle Monte Carlo in Destiny 2 for Season 8, the community has wished that the bayonet blade of the weapon would serve a purpose beyond decoration. Especially because its exotic abilities are closely tied to the melee combat of a Guardian.
This wish will finally be fulfilled. Because Bungie revealed as part of a weapon preview for the upcoming Season 22 a new weapon catalyst that makes this possible. And apparently it wasn’t that easy.
We finally did it. It was mechanically the most complex catalyst we have ever made. It required a lot of custom animation work and many things we’ve never done before on a weapon, but we hope you like it.
Bungie announced
The catalyst now allows Guardians to pierce their opponents with the bayonet of the Monte Carlo with a decidedly devastating melee attack.
A short video demonstrates how it works exactly:
1,440% more damage than a base melee attack
This is how the Guardians reacted: On the Destiny subreddit, this news was met with bright eyes and the words, “Finally, I can stab!” But the damage also captivated many, as in the video the base knife melee dealt 7,534 damage. The bayonet melee, however, dealt 116,019 damage.
- Abductodude finds “The catalyst of Monte Carlo is sick. [Damn, they] actually did it!”
- Mrbeeznz says: “My 39,000 kills with the Monte Carlo won’t be in vain, finally I can stab, stab, stab.”
Others are already dreaming of synergies with certain armor exotics, like the Synthoceps of Titans or the Nezarec’s Sin of Warlocks.
- So says Anandriel: “So happy that Monte Carlo was my choice for the Strand Warlock melee build with the Nezarec’s Sin. This will just be the cherry on top for my add-clearing potential.”
Whether the catalyst will actually change the position of the Monte Carlo in the PvE or PvP meta remains to be seen. But for those who are already fans of the auto rifle, this addition fulfills a long-held wish and enhances the core fantasy of the weapon.
The Guardians also focused on the immense damage visible in the short video. This was further explained by player Ktown0214.
- Against the Nightmare Bell Keepers in the Duality dungeon, the bayonet stab from Monte Carlo inflicts an astonishing 116,019 damage points, making it quite an impressive weapon in PvE combat.
- For comparison, the impact + explosion of a 1,810 “Hothead” rocket launcher deals 113,480 damage.
Others, like player Rikiaz, are cautious and note: “Don’t take this number to heart. Test materials almost always have completely different numbers than the live version.”
Here one should also consider that the values may have been influenced by buffs, exotics, and the Duality dungeon. Therefore, the exact values in the live game may vary.
How do you get the catalyst? The catalyst is not attached to any quest. It drops in the three ritual playlists. You will need to play Gambit, Crucible, or Strikes and have some luck to get it.
What do you think of this catalyst? Did you expect this? And are you satisfied with the choice? Or would you have preferred a catalyst for the Thorn instead? Let us know.
However, one can only be ashamed of other things in Destiny 2:
For parts of the German community about Destiny 2, one must be ashamed
