A user shows a colleague’s computer. However, the image is shocking. Few have seen such a sticky and dirty PC before.
What could be so terrible to see? A computer that a user posted on Reddit. There, you can see a PC glowing yellow, brown, and black on the inside, which has definitely seen better days. The thread starter writes only: “The fans are basically glued together with tar and dust sludge.”
Even community users who have seen a lot are quite astonished by the image and suspect that there isn’t much left to save. One user explains quite incredulously:
I used to smoke a lot myself, but my PC never looked like this. Like… I think the worst part was that it was a bit yellow on the inside.
Such cases happen repeatedly, that hardware is heavily stuck with tar and dust from smoking. Because the computer, whether it is on or under the table, “breathes” in the smoke’s fumes through the ventilation and thus unconsciously becomes a passive smoker. Why should you regularly clean your computer? Dirt and dust clog access ways for air or your fans. This causes some components or parts to not dissipate heat properly and thus overheat.
The processor and graphics card then throttle performance to cope with the heat or shut down in an emergency to protect components. Your PC will thus become increasingly slower. Especially, if you have pets at home, regular cleaning of the PC is worthwhile.
In cases like the currently shown user’s PC, there may eventually be nothing more to do because dust and tar have become so strongly adhered and turned into a hard mass that cannot be removed with household means. As some users in the thread fear, you may only be able to throw away the hardware.
