Would you rent your apartment, including expensive hardware, to a complete stranger? Without knowing whether this person would handle it carefully? The majority would probably shake their heads.
However, a gamer now reports on reddit that he booked an apartment via Airbnb that is equipped with two powerful gaming PCs. Airbnb is an online platform for booking and renting accommodations.
One of the gaming PCs contains an RTX 4090, which alone costs 1,600 euros. The second system has “only” an RTX 2070. Additionally, the apartment also has a 3D printer and a HoloLens 2, which is a mixed reality headset.
“Too much trust in humanity”
How does the community react? Quite astonished. Many believe that the unknown landlord simply has too much trust in potential tenants. One commenter with the most upvotes writes: “The trust these people have in humanity is incredible.”
- Others believe that the landlords are simply rich enough “and don’t have to worry if a few clumsy people steal their stuff.”
- Still others say that one should not trust the landlord either. After all, the owner of the systems could have installed keyloggers to spy on sensitive data.
However, there are also reassuring voices saying: People are all much too paranoid and see a trap behind every nice offer. Not every tenant would commit theft, and not every landlord would engage in espionage to betray his customers.
In one thing, however, everyone actually agrees: One would certainly not offer one’s own gaming PC for rent to a stranger.
Even real hotels have already discovered gamers for themselves
Basically, there are such equipped apartments. Streamers or e-sports athletes often look for such places to stream in peace or to prepare for an upcoming tournament.
Are there hotels for gamers? Yes, they actually exist. Fully equipped gaming systems in hotel rooms are by the way nothing unusual. Even big companies have already discovered gamers as a traveling target group.
Apart from culture and tourism, they want to offer players the same comfort and performance as at their home desk. But streamers and e-sports athletes are also a popular target group for such offers, who like to work on the go or want to prepare.
A hotel advertises, for example, with gaming PCs equipped with RTX-3000 GPUs in every room, with prices starting at 70 euros per night, making them surprisingly affordable. Nowadays, you can find such gaming hotels not only in China but also in Japan or the Netherlands. And they are quite successful and very popular with their customers.
Nevertheless, the focus of such gaming accommodations is mainly in Asian countries, where most of these hotels are located. A European alternative would at least be “The Arcade Hotel” in Amsterdam.
