On Twitch he is banned, on YouTube demonetized: Now DrDisrespect is going to the controversial competitor.
Which streamer is being discussed? The shooter streamer Herschel “Guy” Beahm alias “DrDisrespect” was once a star on Twitch. However, in 2020 he was suddenly banned from the platform. For four years, the reason for his ban was unknown.
During this time, the Doc streamed on YouTube – much to his dismay without a lucrative exclusivity deal. In June 2024 it became known that the streamer had been banned for inappropriate messages exchanged with a 17-year-old on Twitch.
DrDisrespect lost partnerships and streamer friends, and was even thrown out of his own studio. Additionally, YouTube cut off his income. Now he wants to try his luck with the competition.
The ban was long considered a major mystery.
Where is he going now? On November 25, 2024, DrDisrespect announced on X that he will be appearing on Rumble starting December 2. This is a Canadian video and streaming platform aimed at conservative and politically right-leaning users.
The Doc promises as modestly as ever: “It’s not just a stream… it’s an experience.” The streamer emphasizes the supposedly great freedom on the platform: “No more cancel culture, no oppression.” In 2023 he commented on pronouns in Starfield and was subsequently dropped by his favorite football team.
Following the announcement, Rumble’s stock surged, recording a 13% increase on Monday. The company gained over 230 million US dollars in market value. In the meantime, the stock price has stabilized again.
On November 27, Rumble CEO Chris Pavlovski stated that DrDisrespect will continue to be seen on YouTube as well. However, the streamer will produce exclusive content for the paid premium version of the platform.
That the Doc is not completely turning his back on YouTube is likely good news for some of his fans. Because although many welcome the switch precisely because of Rumble’s political orientation, that also brings problems. For example, the site is banned in some countries, including France (via Le Monde).
Why is his situation so difficult? While other streamers have signed million-dollar deals with platforms in recent years, DrDisrespect has missed out due to his ban. Apparently, YouTube and even Kick did not want to spend large sums to contract a content creator exclusively that they could get for free.
While the streamer is making the move to Rumble look like a big spectacle, realistically the Doc has hardly any alternatives if Twitch doesn’t want him and YouTube restricts his options to monetize his content.
On Rumble, DrDisrespect is not only supposed to be paid for streaming, but also to build a gaming sector behind the scenes.
