What’s up with the boxes? A few days ago Activision sent mysterious wooden boxes to selected content creators and gaming sites around Call of Duty. These were secured with a combination lock, which was revealed only on Monday, August 10.
Meanwhile, the boxes have been opened. But contrary to what many hoped, they did not find the reveal date or specific information about Call of Duty 2020, which, according to leaks and rumors, will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, this information might still follow this week.
Boxes contain a tough puzzle about Call of Duty 2020
What was actually in the boxes? The boxes contained
- a cryptic letter
- various projectors
- as well as different slides
The individual partners received slides with partly different images.
These show, among other things
- cryptic tables
- maps of different countries – including Russia, England, and France (possible locations)
- a part of the popular Black Ops map Summit
How does everything connect? The slides, the projectors, the letter, the references to the Summit map, and numerous other details – all of this was essentially part of a larger puzzle.
This involved not only the material from the boxes but even extends to the Warzone in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Black Ops 4, or a famous chess match from 1972 between the USA and the former Soviet Union.

Currently, not much is happening there. An old, switched-off television is visible. Next to it, there is an old VHS player, a telephone, an old computer, and two chess pieces.
But one detail on the page suggests that something might happen soon – probably still this week. On the video recorder, the display blinks “12:00”. However, if you stay on the page for a while, it blinks “08-14” in between. Many consider this a hint for August 14, so this coming Friday, and that something related to Call of Duty 2020 will happen on that day.
CoD 2020 reveal still this week? A reveal of CoD 2020 on August 14 is rather unlikely.
Because Activision confirmed to Twitter user NoahJ456 that this puzzle was only the first step of the reveal of the new Call of Duty. By the way, NoahJ456 played a leading role in solving a large part of the puzzle.
