In March 2020, there was a clear winner in the PS Store for PlayStation 4: Call of Duty. The shooter franchise is number one in both major PS4 categories in Europe and the USA: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the top paid game, and Call of Duty: Warzone is the best free-to-play game.
Sony announces which PS4 games were most downloaded for free or purchased in March 2020 in the PS Store. In February 2020, a surprising winner emerged in the PS Store: The Division 2 was able to shine through a clever action by Ubisoft.
In March 2020, we see strong movements among the games. Much of this is certainly due to the Corona lockdown, but the release of Call of Duty: Warzone on March 10 as a free-to-play game shook the PS Store.
CoD Modern Warfare makes a strong comeback on PS4 in March

What stands out: CoD Modern Warfare had fallen out of the top 10 in Europe in February and is now back to number 1.
Interestingly, FIFA 20 (release: September 27, 2019) is gaining traction in Europe. Apparently, players are increasingly turning to virtual soccer during the Corona quarantine and buying FIFA 20 when they have to forgo real soccer. In the USA, soccer doesn’t play a role; they play baseball when sitting at home.
The highly rated shooter Doom Eternal (release March 20) lands only at number 14 in Europe – in the USA, it is at number 4. There seem to be strong differences depending on which side of the Atlantic you are considering purchasing a new PS4 game.
With “CoD Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered” at number 5 in the USA, a 3rd CoD title makes it to the top lists. The game was released exclusively for PS4 on the last day of March. In Europe, the remastered campaign has reached number 20.
CoD Warzone displaces Fortnite and Apex Legends on PS4

What stands out: Call of Duty: Warzone dominates among free PS4 titles. The game has quickly surpassed 30 million players and created significant buzz on Twitch. However, cheaters are causing problems for Warzone. A tournament organizer even stated that Warzone will be dead soon if the CoD team does not get the issue under control.
There are only a few differences between free-to-play titles on PS4 in Europe and the USA. The top 3 are the same. Only soccer comes in between in Europe.
Additionally, Dauntless seems to be more popular in the USA (number 5) than in Europe. Here, the monster hunting game is not in the top 10.
