Call of Duty: Vanguard brings some new features to the shooter series. Most of them are not more than variations of old features. However, one new toy has particularly captivated MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus: the tiny remote-controlled Goliath tank.
Anyone who truly loves shooters wants a little RC tank to zoom around with, and if they say otherwise, they are lying. Unfortunately, these things are really expensive in real life. But that’s not a problem, as CoD Vanguard now offers the full mini-tank experience! And it can really be unfair – for your opponents.
What kind of tank is this? The Goliath is one of the new field upgrades in CoD Vanguard. You unlock it at level 7 and can then call it for support in any match. In our guide, you’ll find out how to level up faster in Vanguard.
Since it is not a killstreak like the small RC car from Cold War, you do not need a certain number of kills in the match to use it. You just have to patiently wait until the (admittedly quite long) cooldown has expired.
Goliaths are heavily armored, remote-controlled tracked vehicles that are slim and small enough to fit through the doors of the game. And they are also really deadly.
What makes the Goliath so good? Even though a Goliath may look inconspicuous, you can easily get several kills with it. The main idea behind it is that you can send an armored, remote-controlled bomb towards the enemy.
Upon activation, you simply blow up the tank near your enemies, killing everything within a fairly large radius that is not behind full cover. Especially amusing: You can also simply run over enemies.
No joke. Even though Goliaths are small, they are still tanks. If you simply run over an enemy, they are instantly dead. They can only be destroyed with strong explosives or many magazines. This can lead to really unfair situations, as one user shows on reddit:
Small tank with small quirks
These are the disadvantages: As strong as the Goliath may sound, it does have some weaknesses. The most obvious one is that the controls can be really frustrating. After all, it is still a tracked vehicle, making it tricky to navigate through doors and tight corridors.
Even if you don’t get stuck, inclines or stairs that are too high can pose a problem. Additionally, the tank is quite slow, so enemies can simply run away from it.
Perhaps the biggest disadvantages: as long as you are controlling the Goliath, you are stationary and can be killed. Additionally, kills with the Goliath do not count towards your next killstreak.
Goliaths are quite loud and can be easily heard with a bit of practice. Also, there should be an announcement when a Goliath is summoned into the field. Pay attention to such indications and use the weaknesses of the tank when playing against it.
But honestly: What are a few quirks when you can drive around in a tank? Remote control out, tank out, and let’s go!
How to best use the Goliath? If you are at the other end of the remote control, remember: find cover. Only call the Goliath when you have protection behind your own lines or in a hiding place.
Keep in mind that the Goliath needs some space to be summoned and it can run you over as well. This makes the deployment a bit tricky, but with a bit of practice, you will quickly figure out the nuances.
Don’t hesitate to use the tank early and often. That way, you’ll learn the somewhat cumbersome controls and soon be able to maneuver it through tight doors. Goliaths are particularly useful when your own death doesn’t really matter, but you need to quickly kill a few enemies. Because at least one, if not 3 or more kills are almost guaranteed per deployment.
Since the Goliath is an upgrade and not a killstreak, you also cannot simply call it as a good player as often as you want. You still have to wait until the cooldown is over. But that also means you will definitely get it 1-2 times per match.
If you prefer driving real tanks in shooters, you should keep an eye on the upcoming Battlefield 2042. It features huge maps and vehicles. In our special, read about what suits you better:
