Enshrouded is an insider tip in the survival genre, although it enjoys great popularity on Steam. At its release, it went up against a giant – nevertheless, it has endured and is now even growing bigger.
What kind of game is this?
- Enshrouded was released in early 2024, almost simultaneously with the massive hit Palworld. Amid the hype, this survival game from Germany was overshadowed, even though it was able to showcase over 100,000 players at release.
- The game is mainly known and loved for its visuals and puzzles, which strongly resemble Zelda, as well as its voxel building system like in Minecraft. Players can create completely crazy things, some have even recreated the great dwarven city from Lord of the Rings.

- new enemies, including: Stalkers, Fog Divers, and the Brood Queen
- new armor sets and Points of Interest
- forging in the miasma, where you can upgrade, add, and remove 21 different weapon gems
- character customization options like colors for armor, hair, and eyes as well as new hairstyles
Where the world became even bigger in the last update “Souls of the Frozen Frontier”, the focus with Update 6 is clearly on improving and expanding existing content. Update 6 is available now. The 1.0 release is targeted for 2026.
Still 18,000 players on Steam after over a year, 86% positive
Although things have been quite calm regarding Enshrouded and many survival fans turned to Palworld at release, the game is still huge on Steam. According to steamcharts, Enshrouded had an average of 8,500 players in April 2025, peaking at 18,000.
On Steam, players rate Enshrouded “very positive,” with 86% approval in all reviews. They praise the game as one of the “best games in recent years.” Great acclaim has been given for the building system, the world, quests, and the story.
The rather rare criticism mainly concerns bugs, partially missing content that will be added later, and features that still need development, such as dungeons. Nevertheless, the vast majority of players recommend Enshrouded.
Especially the exploration with the glider and the scattered puzzle towers make Enshrouded unique. The miasma represents a new way to approach dangers and divides the world into “safe” and “dangerous” areas at different points.
