The demo of a new shooter impresses hundreds of shooter fans on Steam, while the gameplay is typical for a completely different genre.
What kind of game is this? Deadzone: Rogue is a roguelite shooter set in a space station filled with evil robots in outer space.
The game from the developer team “Prophecy Games” combines shooter gameplay with the gameplay mechanics of Hades, which is among the highest-rated games on Steam.
A demo of Deadzone: Rogue is also playable on the Valve game platform. Over 800 players have already tested it, with a strong 93% leaving positive reviews.
Here you can see a trailer for Deadzone: Rogue:
What makes the game so special? Even though Deadzone: Rogue is still in development, it clearly presents the gameplay loop in the demo.
If you have played Hades, Sworn, or other games with a similar principle, you are likely familiar with the process:
- You start a run
- clear one room after another of enemies
- receive rewards at the end of a room that improve your build
- eventually fight a boss
- possibly unlock permanent upgrades
- in the event of death, you have to start a new run from the beginning
But instead of sword, bow and arrow, spear, or something similar, you have various guns in Deadzone: Rogue – namely assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, and all the rest that goes with it. Of course, grenades and a dash for dodging are also included. The game is played from a first-person perspective.
Room rewards include new, better weapons, armor pieces, or perks for your equipment. For instance, you can deal increased critical damage, burning effects become more effective, or cryo-bullets slow down your enemies’ movements.
The various perks and weapons are designed to keep the replay value high.
More and more developers are trying their hand at combinations of roguelite mechanics and shooter gameplay. There are individual modes in games like Destiny or Warframe and focused games like Deadzone: Rogue or Risk of Rain 2. A roguelite shooter that celebrated its full release in 2023 is doing really well on Steam: Co-op shooter on Steam is 95% positive, highly praised by players, but you probably never heard of it
