Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most successful MMORPGs on the market. The game’s head, Naoki Yoshida, revealed in an interview that he could envision a single-player game set in the world of FF14.
What did Yoshida say? In an interview, the website PCGamesN asked the producer and director of Final Fantasy 14 if he could envision the world in a single-player spin-off.
Yoshida found the idea appealing and would be very happy about an implementation. However, it probably won’t come from him.
What’s the problem? Yoshida states in the interview that the development team of Final Fantasy XIV has too much on their plate to implement such a project. However, he would be happy if someone else would take care of it:
At the moment, the development team does not have enough time to create any spin-offs or similar projects. But as long as someone is willing to take on this challenge, we would greatly welcome it if they would do so.
However, possibly closer in the future is the release of the MMORPG on Xbox:
The head of the MMORPG wouldn’t mind if a team from Square Enix or even someone completely different took care of it.
Work on the new addon for FF14
What is the development team currently doing? On July 2, 2019, the expansion Shadowbringers was released, which expanded the MMORPG with many new contents. However, this will not be the last addon.
Currently, work is already underway on a new expansion that is scheduled to be released in two years. A single-player version of the MMORPG would push the project back by at least two years, Yoshida revealed.
Additionally, new content updates with items such as story, dungeons, and raids are released approximately every 4 months, which are also being worked on.
What does the future hold for the MMORPG? In our interview at Gamescom, the head of the game revealed that the current story, which has been running for about 6 years, is 75% to 80% complete. But after that, the game is set to continue for a long time.
Where exactly it is going was not revealed by Yoshida at that time. However, he told PCGamesN that it could lead to other worlds within the FFXIV universe.
However, possibly closer in the future is the release of the MMORPG on Xbox:
