In WotLK Classic are Protection Warriors and Protection Paladins on the hunt for a very specific item: The “Crest of Lordaeron” is not only a very good shield for any tank, but it also looks damn good! MeinMMO explains how you can easily get the Crest.
What makes the shield so special? The “Crest of Lordaeron” is one of the best items for tanks. The crest offers a large amount of stamina, strength, defense rating, and especially hit rating. The hit rating makes the shield so valuable, as it is harder for tanks to achieve this in WotLK than the required defense rating. Only with enough hit rating can they build up sufficient threat.
Currently, you can hardly get a better shield. Many tanks use the crest due to its stats even late into the expansion and into the last raids. In the first 3 raids of the expansion, the item is still considered one of the best choices.
This makes the shield even more special: The “Crest of Lordaeron” impresses with its appearance: while most shields in WoW Classic look rather brutal, this shield appears much nobler in comparison. It is colored in the classic colors of the Alliance, blue and gold, and proudly displays the crest of Lordaeron in the center.
It’s no wonder that the item from Wrath of the Lich King is a popular transmog item. Whether you’re adventuring in WotLK Classic or hunting for transmog in modern WoW, the Crest is quite easy to obtain. You just need a bit of luck.

How to get the “Crest of Lordaeron”
Where does the item drop? If you want to snag the royal shield, you must visit the dungeon “The Purging of Stratholme” (also: HdZ 4) on heroic difficulty. This applies to both WotLK Classic and modern WoW. This dungeon is located in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, and you can easily and quickly get there through a portal in the Violet Citadel in Dalaran.
The “Crest of Lordaeron” can be obtained from a chest that you can open once you have defeated the last boss Mal’Ganis. With a drop chance of about 16 percent, however, you may need to visit the dungeon multiple times before you are successful.

What to watch out for? In WotLK, you need a group of 5 players to successfully complete the dungeon. Even on heroic difficulty, it’s not particularly hard. In modern WoW, however, you should be able to manage it without any problems alone. Although the dungeons take a bit longer, you can have a lot of fun in Wrath of the Lich King even with little time.
The suitable mount comes along with it: While you fight against the undead Scourge in Stratholme, you should definitely try to defeat the Eternal Corruptor before time runs out. This is an additional boss that is only available in heroic mode. If you succeed before time runs out, you will receive the Reins of the Bronze Drake. An epic mount with a flight speed of 280 percent.
But don’t make the same mistake as a tank who was also hunting for good loot. He behaved rudely towards his teammates, insulted them, and even kicked them from the group. But when it came to the loot, he experienced a nasty surprise:
