The co-director of the adventure game Uncharted 2 noticed a striking similarity between his work and a scene in the new Mission: Impossible film.
The successful video game Uncharted 2: Among Thieves starts directly with a scene where Nathan Drake awakens on a train that is dangerously hanging over an abyss. To avoid falling, the main character clings to a seat.
A similar scene was recently discovered by a co-director of the game in the new action film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which premiered in theaters on July 13, 2023.

On Twitter, the co-director of Uncharted 2, Bruce Straley, posted on July 15, 2023, two screenshots from the new film and the video game side by side to show the similarity of the scenes.
He wrote: “the sincerest form of flattery.”
This implies that the creator of the game, film director Christopher McQuarrie, may have copied the scene from the game.
As Twitter user thawhid_k posted in a screenshot, the director was reportedly already asked by users if he was inspired by the scene from Uncharted.
However, the director denied this according to the screenshot and then admitted that he knows very little about video games. The tweet on Twitter could not be found in the original at the time this article was written.
However, the filmmaker had previously talked about Uncharted, as our colleagues from GamePro wrote in an article in 2015. A plane scene in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was already inspired by Uncharted 3.
A user on Twitter does not understand the discussion about the similarity of the scenes. In his opinion, neither the new action movie nor the game were the first to use the vehicle-above-abyss scene.
As an example, another user posted screenshots from the film The Lost World: Jurassic Park from 1997, in which the characters also hang on vehicle seats over an abyss.
