The Honour Mode is the biggest official challenge in Baldur’s Gate 3. You have only one save file, and if the group dies, the run is over. Bosses have more abilities, and enemies are tougher. A player had to learn the hard way that even his girlfriend in the game can pose a danger.
Which romance is it about?
- Lae’zel is one of the companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 and therefore one of the romance options in the game. The Githyanki warrior is attracted to strength and determination.
- You encounter Lae’zel as the first companion in the game; she meets you directly on the Nautiloid. In the community, she is often referred to as “Bae’zel” and is among the most popular romances.
- She is always very direct, even in the relationship, which is probably what makes her appealing. Unlike some other companions, she does not want to share you under any circumstances.
This is how Lae’zel makes the Honour Run fail: Throughout the romances, you will witness various love scenes with the characters. For example, Shadowheart wants to swim with you, and from Halsin, there is the famous bear scene.
In Lae’zel’s second romance scene, she challenges you to a duel and expects you to defeat her to prove your worthiness to be her partner. This can be tricky depending on your class, but it gets even harder.
Because while Lae’zel says it is a practice fight, she uses all available means to win. This includes all items she has in her inventory at the time of the fight.
“This is how I lost my first and only Honour Run”
In a thread on Reddit, a user posted a meme describing how Lae’zel consumes all the potions in the “friendly” duel. In particular, speed potions are powerful and popular.
Since Lae’zel is a warrior with a lot of strength, she is often used as the pack mule of the group. This applies to particularly heavy items like explosives, which has become a downfall for other players in the comments. One user writes:
My brother flirted with her during our Honour Run. I told him it is ESSENTIAL to take all explosives away from [Lae’zel] every night in Act 2 so she doesn’t kill the entire camp.

Lae’zel also uses everything that explodes when challenging you to a fight. In a response, one player assures that this is precisely what happened to him. Thus, his only Honour Run came to an end.
Another player writes that he had to work through all the scrolls he had available to avoid failure in his run and calls the duel “one of the top 3 hardest fights.” However, another player suffered perhaps the most bitter defeat: Player loses in Honour Mode despite having already won
