Boo is one of the most dangerous opponents from Dragon Ball Z. A scientist was recently asked if there are living beings that behave just like him in real life. In fact, there is a creature that possesses one of Boo’s characteristics.
What kind of living being is that? Professor Haga is a cell biologist at Hokkaido University and was questioned about the biology of Boo, the villain from Dragon Ball Z. The team of the official Dragon Ball site wanted to know if there is a living being that can split like Boo and then reassemble.
Indeed, the professor thinks of a slime mold as an example. The unicellular organism lives on decaying wood and soil. They are microscopic and can merge together into larger organisms when they are hungry.
In this way, up to thousands of individual molds come together to become a larger creature. This allows them to search for food more effectively and spread their spores to grow even further. Experiments have even shown that the creature possesses intelligence: In a maze, it immediately found the shortest path to food.
Currently, Dragon Ball continues with the anime Daima:
Slime mold could attack humanity under one condition
Why could it become dangerous to us? The scientist clarifies that the mold normally would not attack humans. But if they were to develop aggressive behavior, that could become a problem. The slime mold is everywhere, and it is difficult to get rid of it. Only a Saiyan could do that.
However, they have a weakness that makes them not very threatening: slime molds are extremely slow. So even if you encounter an aggressive mold, you could wash it away and run before anything happens.
What abilities do slime molds lack to become Boo? However, what the slime mold cannot do is absorb other beings like Boo and use their powers. The only living examples that come to the scientist’s mind are white blood cells.
They can even change their appearance when they absorb another cell. Boo also changes his appearance in the anime when he absorbs other living beings. However, white blood cells are not a threat as they help keep our body healthy.
Akira Toriyama, the mangaka of Dragon Ball, had a penchant for special wordplay with names. He also made an effort with Boo’s name, which is inspired by a spell from a Disney movie: One of the strongest opponents from Dragon Ball Z was inspired by a Disney film
