Professionals can earn real money in Fortnite , as the prize pools in tournaments are quite high: Especially with the upcoming World Cup. For a professional player, however, it’s too much. Because he believes that Fortnite is not ready for such high amounts.
That’s why Fortnite is unsuitable for such high prize pools: Pros Tfue and Cloak have already won thousands of dollars in prize money themselves, but for Cloak, the prize pools have become too high.
Fortnite has too many bugs and is therefore not yet ready for such large sums of money to be played for.
What the professionals think about the prize money in Fortnite
This is what the pros say: The two players Tfue and Cloak from the FaZe clan are among the strongest duos in competitive Fortnite. They are currently preparing for the Fortnite World Championship, playing a lot together, and also streaming. Hence, the topic of “high prize money” came up.
Cloak says in the stream:
“It’s actually stupid how much money is at stake. The game is by no means where it needs to be to have this amount of money as a prize pool.”
When it comes to so much money, it’s “just dumb,” he says.
Why is Fortnite not ready yet? The game is plagued by bugs that disrupt tournaments.
Additionally, the professionals repeatedly complain that Epic changes fundamental things just before tournaments. New items or locations in the game can completely alter the meta.
How much money is at stake?
- Fortnite has provided a total of 100 million US dollars in prize money for the 2019 season
- There are often tournaments where players can win over 200,000 dollars.
- The World Cup alone has a budget of 30 million US dollars, and the winner in solo mode receives 3 million $
For Cloak, that’s too much. Apparently, the fun is also lost. Because with so much money, the enjoyment of the game is no longer the focus.
There are opposing voices: The probably most famous Fortnite streamer, Ninja, sees it differently. For him, the prize money is reasonable.
He mocks the complaints. For him, the complaint seems absurd.
Ninja says that there are always reasons for the pros to complain. If the prize money were different, the players would find a new reason to complain about Epic.

Why are the prize pools so high? Epic can afford to offer such high prize pools – after all, Fortnite is said to have generated around 3 billion US dollars in profits in 2018.
High prize pools increase the attractiveness of tournaments and foster a vibrant eSports scene.
Ironically, Tfue and Cloak declined in February to participate in the ESL tournament in Katowice. They thought the prize money was too low (via dotesports). Altogether, there was 500,000$ at stake – the winners in duo mode received 80,000$.
The two probably thought that they could earn more during the regular streams over those three days lost for the event in Poland.
This shows that the prize pools in Fortnite must be high enough to convince the top players to participate – as they also earn very well through Twitch and special deals when not competing in tournaments.

When does the eSports year 2019 kick off? The Fortnite professionals are currently preparing for this 30 million dollar competition.
- The qualification for the World Cup starts on April 13
- The actual final event is then from July 26 to 28
Besides Tfue and Cloak, Ninja is also training for this competition lately. He has decided to get back into eSports in Fortnite.
What do you think about it? Are the prize pools too high, or do you find them reasonable?
Tfue and Ninja also faced off in the game recently. Here’s how it went:
