Last weekend, the fan festival for Final Fantasy 14 took place in Tokyo. Dart revealed to producer Naoki Yoshida what new features will be introduced in the upcoming expansion Dawntrail. But there have also been notable developments in the rest of the MMORPG world.
The week’s highlights:
- The 2nd class that will be introduced with Dawntrail in Final Fantasy 14, is the Pictomancer. He wields a colorful brush and spreads color around him. He counts as a mage class. Additionally, the producers announced that female Hrothgar will be added to the game.

What else has happened? The MMORPG company Nexon had to pay a fine of 8.1 million euros for providing false information regarding loot boxes in MapleStory. In a livestream, the team apologized for making this mistake (via MassivelyOP).
Additionally, a court document has surfaced that indicates how much players have invested in MapleStory’s loot boxes. One player spent around 200,000 euros in a year.

What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- World of Warcraft has nerfed a final boss. As a result, smaller groups now also have the opportunity to defeat the boss Fyrakk.
- Black Desert Online is distributing horses and powerful items for console players, as reported by MMORPG.com. Players can choose from three different horses.
- New World has launched the
Legacy of Crassus
event. The event runs from January 10 to January 23, 2024. Rewards include statues of Cyclopes, a pickaxe, as well as weapon and armor sets. - For Lost Ark players, there has been the first major update in 2024. Included are the Lailai Island, a new difficulty level for Brelshaza, and New Year skins for players.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- Nexon announced that the entire PvP component in the MMORPG Vindictus will be removed. This will lead to some adjustments to the user interface: duel statistics will disappear and the corresponding button will be removed from the menu.
- The MMORPG Metin 2 is celebrating its 17th birthday. In honor of the celebrations, all players will receive a bonus on experience points gained.
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- The Tarisland development team wants to listen to player criticism and is making adjustments to Pay2Win. Crafting of equipment pieces is now to be limited, with some only obtainable through PvE content.
- Throne & Liberty has tightened the rules for the Korean server. All players must now verify their identity using a Korean phone number. This makes it harder for foreign players to access the Korean servers (via MassivelyOP).
- For the old-school MMORPG Ravendawn, player name reservations began this week. The official release of the game is expected next week.
