Masashi Kishimoto, the creative mind behind Naruto, has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the sci-fi film “The Matrix”. This admiration found its way into Naruto Shippuden and manifested particularly in Gaara’s new look.
What does Gaara’s look in Naruto Shippuden look like? Gaara, a key character in the Naruto saga, received a striking clothing design inspired by Keanu Reeves’ role as Neo from The Matrix. In Naruto Shippuden, Gaara wears a long, dark red coat with a grayish chest protection and dark pants.
An apparently unremarkable detail that stands out upon closer inspection: The belts that adorn the coat strongly resemble Neo’s iconic outfit. These belts serve to hold Gaara’s gourd in which he keeps his chakra-infused sand.
Despite the weekly pressure to produce highly detailed drawings for Shonen Jump, Kishimoto deliberately chose a detailed design as a homage to The Matrix.

, hails from the village of Sunagakure and is the son of the fourth Kazekage.
He is initially introduced as an antagonist during the Chunin exams. However, throughout the story, Gaara undergoes profound development and becomes an ally of Naruto Uzumaki.
This creative approach from Kishimoto also extends to other characters, such as Rock Lee, who was inspired by Bruce Lee.
